Agencies to crack down on Nirav Modi’s aides

Modi, Mehul Choksi and others are being investigated by multiple agencies after the Punjab National Bank disclosed a multi-crore fraud.

New Delhi: After attaching several assets, including a solar plant, of Nirav Modi, the Income Tax (IT) department in coordination with other Central agencies are now preparing to attach assets linked to the associates of the diamantaire.

Sources said, “The process to attach assets of those associated with Nirav Modi will soon be initiated by the IT department”. The IT department recently attached Modi’s four immovable assets, including a farm house and a solar power plant, worth `70 crore, in connection with a tax evasion probe.

Those properties attached included Modi’s farm house in Alibaug, near Mumbai, valued at Rs 13 crore, the 5.24 MW solar power plant spread in 135 acres land in Karjat in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district and two other properties.

“The IT department is now preparing a list of Modi’s associates so that their properties can also be attached,” sources said. Modi, Mehul Choksi and others are being investigated by multiple agencies after the Punjab National Bank disclosed a multi-crore fraud.
