Russian President Vladim-ir Putin has gifted Prime Minister Narendra an 18th century sword from Bengal and a page from Mahatma Gandhi’s diary containing his handwritten notes. The gifts were given to Mr Modi by the Russian President when they met in Kremlin here on Wednesday night.

“President Putin gifted me a page from Gandhiji’s diary containing Bapu’s handwritten notes. President Putin also gifted an 18th century sword from Bengal, featuring intricate silver artwork. I thank him for the gifts,” the Prime Minister tweeted. The 18th century sword from Bengal belonged to the Najafi Dynasty.

Mr Putin hosted Mr Modi for a tete-e-tete at the Kremlin followed by a private dinner during which the two touched upon issues of mutual interests.

The PM arrived here for a two-day visit, his first bilateral trip here after assuming the top office. Mr Modi and Mr Putin will hold 16th India-Russia annual summit talks on Thursday at the Kremlin, following which the two sides are expected to sign a number of pacts.
