A petition was filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday seeking to declare Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif “ineligible” after Panama Papers.

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday seeking to declare Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif “ineligible” after Panama Papers.

The petitioner appealed the court to form a high-level judicial commission on offshore assets of Mr Sharif’s family and suspend him from the office till the investigation completes.

“The PM is no more a sadiq (truthful) and ameen (trustworthy) therefore, the Supreme Court should issue orders to declare him ineligible and direct him to file actual details of assets,” the petitioner said.

Earlier, on Thursday the Lahore high court issued notices to Mr Sharif and his five family members in a case pertaining to their offshore assets. The Sharif family has been ordered to file response by April 18.

The notices were issued to Mr Sharif, his brother chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, wife Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif, son Hussain Nawaz Sharif and two other family members.

The court issued noti-ces while hearing a petition filed by barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffri. The petition has impleaded 64 politicians as respondents, including the Sha-rif family, Chaudhry bro-thers and Imran Khan.

In the Panama Papers leak, it came out that the Prime Minister’s family “were owners or had the right to authorise transactions for several companies”.
