New Delhi: Lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal, in a review meeting held on Friday,  said that six new corridors, including Vikas Marg, Mehrauli-Badarpur road, New Rohtak road, Patel road, Outer Ring road and Shahid Jagat Narayan marg were identified for traffic decongestion.

Mr Baijal also directed the authorities to ensure that the city roads should be made encroachment-free. “He also directed the stakeholders concerned to ensure that there should not be any re-encroachment, after removal of encroachment.

He stressed that local police station should assume responsibility for the same,” the L-G office said in a statement.

Mr Baijal held a review meeting with all the stakeholders to review the progress on traffic decongestion of existing five pilot corridors — Aurobindo Marg (Aurobindo Marg to Andheria Mod) Mathura road (Neela Gumbad to Badarpur flyover), Savitri flyover (Chirag Delhi crossing to Savitri flyover), and Dhaula Kuan, (Dhaula Kuan flyover to GGR flyover, Sanjay T-Point) and Sardar Patel marg.

It stated that six new corridors such as Mehrauli-Badarpur road, New Rohtak road, Patel road, Outer Ring road, Shahid Jagat Narayan marg and Vikas marg have been identified by the task force for decongestion of traffic.

The statement also stated that Mr Baijal also advised all the three municipal corporations of Delhi (MCDs) to revisit their licencing norms for commercial establishments so that they be linked with availability of adequate parking space.

The L-G directed North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) officials to ensure planning for all junctions on Sardar Patel marg and adjoining roads in coordination with National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for finding long-term solutions.

Traffic on approach roads of New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations were also reviewed and directions were issued to the police to conduct a survey or study on these stretches.
