Mumbai: A minor fire broke out in the Todi Mill Compound in Lower Parel on Thursday. However, the fire was doused quickly and there was no casualty or injury in the mishap. According to fire officials, the fire erupted at about 11 am in a commercial gala located near Café Zoe. Four fire fighting engines were immediately pressed to douse the flames.

“The fire spread due to electrical wiring, wooden furniture and papers in the gala. But it was brought under control within half an hour. The fire was doused by 11.30 am. There were no injuries or casualties,” said a fire official.

The exact cause of the fire and loss of property will be ascertained only after a proper investigation, he added.

However, the mishap caused panic in the Todi Mill Compound premises, which primarily houses offices and eateries and is located just opposite to the Kamala Mills Compound, where 14 people were killed in a major blaze on December 28 last year.

On social media, people were seen advising Mumbaikars not to use flyover side entrance to enter Todi Mill compound. There were also rumours of fire being erupted in nearby Café Zoe or Zaffran restaurant in the premises.

To allay the rumours, Mumbai police had to make a tweet saying, “Yes a fire broke out at Todi Mills. Fire brigade as well as @MumbaiPolice staff is on the spot. No casualties have been reported so far.”
