Sena seeks big brother' status in Maharashtra
Mumbai: Making its intentions clear to play the role of ‘big brother,’ in the state, Shiv Sena has said while the BJP can rule the roost in New Delhi, it will be his party that will call the shots in Maharashtra.
“This is just a proposal, we haven’t officially discussed anything about it,” Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said. He however contended that the seat sharing talks for the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly elections should begin from the seat sharing agreement arrived between the two for the 1995 assembly elections.
According to sources, the BJP has reportedly offered 50-50 seat-sharing formula to Sena for the LS and Assembly polls. However, Sena has said that it will continue to play the role of ‘big brother’ in the state and both parties should contest the Assembly polls by the 1995 formula.
In 1995, the Shiv Sena and the BJP, which fought as an allinace, had contested 169 and 116 seats respectively. The alliance had come to power by winning 138 seats, with Sena winning 73 and the BJP winning 65 seats.
