Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Monday pulled up the state government for non-implementation of modernisation measures for police reforms despite several affidavits filed by the state and many orders passed by the court. The high court was hearing the petition filed by the wife of a Pune builder who was murdered in 2011, but the case remains unsolved till date and the police has failed to make any headway.

A division bench of justice R.M. Savant and justice S.S. Jadhav was hearing a criminal public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Ashwini Rane, complaining about the failure of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to crack the case of her husband Nikhil Rane's murder in 2009.

The petition had sought transfer of the case to the CBI after the police had failed to make any breakthrough in the case. In an earlier hearing, the high court, while questioning the methods adopted by the police to solve the case, had directed the state to modernise its investigation techniques and employ the best available technologies to solve crimes.

After hearing all sides, the bench observed that the implementation of the modernisation techniques seemed to be only on paper as the results were not visible.

The court has given the state and the CBI three weeks to file their replies.
