Man threatens to leap from tower

According to the police officers, the man who has been identified as Gopal Mendha had climbed the Electro Tower at around 4 pm.

Mumbai: A man in his sixties has climbed up an electric tower located at Chunabhatti on Thursday evening. The locals said the man started throwing documents from the tower and screaming that he would jump off. The Chunabhatti police and fire brigade rescued him.

The Chunabhatti police have detained the man who was threatening to commit suicide from the electric tower near Priyadarshini Circle on Thursday evening.

According to the police officers,  the man who has been identified as Gopal Mendha had climbed the Electro Tower at around 4 pm. For one and a half theman created a scene by threatening to jump. The passer bys Balu Ramesh, said that the man had been shouting that he would commit suicide and throw chits down. After which we informed police officials. With in 10 minutes fire brigade started their operation.

"The man has been sent to the hospital for a mental check up," said Sunil Bhosle, senior police inspector of Chunabhatti police station.  The officers said that Mendha had attempted this earlier as well at RCF after his complaint was treated as a non cognisable offence.

Fire brigade officials said, “On arriving at the scene of incident, we learnt from the public and Tata Power personnel that a man called Gopal Mendha  was climbing up the Tata Power tower and threatening to jump . We carried a fire engine, an  aerial ladder , and an ambulance under 108 Emergency Response Service. He was safely rescued with the help of an aerial ladder platform after disconnecting the supply by Tata Power.”
