A 70-year-old woman died after a milk tanker rammed into her near the Sabina Masjid Road area of S.V. Road early on Friday.

A 70-year-old woman died after a milk tanker rammed into her near the Sabina Masjid Road area of S.V. Road early on Friday.

The victim was rushed to Cooper Hospital nearby where the doctors pronounced her brought dead. Following the incident, the police arrested the driver of the tanker Sukhadev Yashwant Salve.

According to the police officials, Salve was over speeding and at the time of the accident had lost control of the vehicle. Further investigation in the case is underway, said the police. Salve was produced in court on Friday afternoon where he was ordered to deposit the guaranty capital of around Rs 10,000 to get released on bail.

Salve, however claimed that he did not have the money and was thus sent to judicial custody.

Sources in the police said that according to their preliminary investigation, Salve was not driving under the influence of alcohol. He was going over the speed limit and had lost control of the tanker when it hit the woman. The deceased has not been identified yet and the police is currently trying to identify her. The deceased used to live on a footpath in Jogeshwari.

On Friday, around 3 am, she was near the Sabina Mosque from the Irfan Baig Road, which is near to SV road, when the tanker hit her from behind and she collapsed there after sustaining severe injuries.

Locals rushed her to hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead.
